Toonerville Trolley- Train & Riverboat Tour
Who doesn’t love a train ride? Combined with a boat tour, expect a day the kids won’t soon forget. The Toonerville Trolley-Train and Riverboat Tour lets you choose between two tours. An all-day 6 ½ hour Train and Riverboat trip that takes you to a private viewing area of the Upper Tahquamenon Falls or if you don’t have all day, a 1 ¾ hour Wilderness Train Ride through the Tahquamenon Forest. Keep your eyes peeled for bear, deer, moose and more!
Both tours leave from Soo Junction.
Tahquamenon Falls Wilderness Excursion
Hop on board the Toonerville Trolley operating on an authentic narrow gauge railroad that takes you 5 ½ miles into the Tahquamenon Forest. In operation since 1927, this railway is the longest and one of the oldest 24 inch gauge railroads in the country. The 35 minute ride is a great way to view wildlife in their natural habitat. If you’re lucky you might even happen upon a bear or moose!
The rail line ends at the Tahquamenon River, where you’ll board the Hiawatha, a double decker river boat. The Hiawatha travels 21 miles down the river to the rapids, ½ mile above the Upper Tahquamenon Falls. During this two hour journey to the falls, the beautiful scenery and the captain’s narration of the river’s history will keep you entertained. Food, beverages and restrooms are available onboard.
Finally, stretch your legs, and enjoy a short hike to two private viewing areas of the Upper Falls, only accessible via the tour.
Wilderness Train Ride
Don’t have all day? Enjoy the 1 hour and 45 minute Wilderness Train Ride. You’ll travel the full 5 ½ miles to the Tahquamenon River, with the same wildlife views as the Tahquamenon Falls Wilderness Excursion Tour. After a 20 minute stop at the Riverside Park, you will ride the Wilderness Line back to Soo Junction. Restrooms and snack are available at the Riverside Park.
